The Santinha Viewpoint is one of the area’s best viewpoints. You will see marvellous views of Porto Moniz from the top, quite possibly the best views of any viewpoint. Plus, you can see views of Ilheu Mole and the natural swimming pools.

The best time to head to this viewpoint is during the sunset because you’ll get fantastic views of Porto Maniz’s lights turning on as the sunsets. Just make sure you have a head torch and you’re fully equipped for hiking at night. 

Levada dos Cedros

Levada dos Cedros

The Levada dos Cedros trail is one of the area’s best trails. You will find the trail at the beginning of Regional Highway E.R. 209, and the trail will take you through some of Madeira’s most natural and undamaged forest.

During the hike, you’ll see a tone of indigenous species, including Madeira blueberry, Madeira mahogany, Lily of the valley tree, and Madeira Laurel. You’ll also come to the Cedros Levada – built in the 17th century – it is one of Maderia’s oldest watercourses. The hike is a total of 11.5km and takes around 3-4 hours to return.

The O Aquário da Madeira is a fantastic aquarium in Porto Moniz Madeira. If you would like to visit an aquarium that presents Madeira’s best marine life – you have to visit the aquarium Porto Moniz. The biggest tank contains over 50,000 liters of salt water and an eclectic mixture of marine life.

And the aquarium has a total of 90 different species, situated in 12 different tanks of all different sizes. Furthermore, you can find most of these species in Cape Verde, the Azores, the Canaries, and some from the East Atlantic. 

Living Science Centre of Porto Moniz

The Living Science Centre of Porto Moniz is a dedicated museum to scientific discovery. There is a range of exhibitions that cater to adults and children in the museum, and you’ll enjoy the cybercafe and 120-people capacity auditorium.
